The vets can always use a little extra. My Dad was in the VA hospital for
a bit in the 1970s. If they wanted to make a call they had to use a pay
phone. Visiting him, I asked him how he was fixed for dimes.

Turned out that the American Legion's women's auxiliary gave every vet
a roll of dimes for the phone. And this was much appreciated -- a lot
of the vets were there because they couldn't afford care anywhere else.
