Default Artificial smoke flavor?

Well, I just learned something new. And not good!

A few weeks ago, I bought a 2 pack of thin, square, pizza crusts (par baked)
from Target. The Archer Farm brand. Can't remember now if they were on
sale, Cartwheel or coupon but something like that so I didn't pay much for
them. I just wish I had read the ingredient list better before buying! I
was only concerned about dairy and egg.

I opened the package a little while ago to make them and was immediately
whapped in the face by a nasty odor. Familiar odor but one that I couldn't
place. One that smelled of chemicals. Bad chemicals. What in the hell
could it be? It was so strong that even the insides of the package reeked
of it.

And it didn't get any better as the pizza baked. I even checked the crust
all over before baking. Wasn't expired, no signs of mold or anything that
looked off.

So I went over the package with a fine toothed comb. And there it was!
Artificial smoke flavor! Why? Just why? That doesn't belong in a pizza!
Are they trying to make me think I baked it in a brick oven or something?

I haven't eaten it yet and am not sure that I will be able to bring myself
too. Luckily I only baked one piece for myself. Because they had no raised
edge, I just cut one piece off for me and used real cheese on the rest for
my husband. I hope he will eat it. He's not picky about his pizza and
he'll even eat mine with the Daiya cheese but Lordy does my house stink now!
