Boiled peanuts are popular in Hawaii. We don't make it spicy though. Over here, it's boiled in salt, star anise, and maybe some shoyu. The old locals like it. I've never made it - boiling peanuts for a couple of hours seems like a real drag. Mostly we buy the stuff in stores and the fishing supply store down the street. My guess is that it's just an excuse to drink more beer.
