There are bakeries and there are bakeries. Some make crap, others make
delightful cakes and pies. You have not found the right ones.

I go to a local bakery that has fantastic bread, but I won't buy their
pasties. Look great, taste bland, over prices.

I go to Wright's Dairy Bakery and they have great cakes with whipped
cream frosting.

Cheap bakeries cover cakes with Crisco and sugar, but good ones make
delightful buttercream frosting. It is not possible to make a comment
that one class is good or bad since both exist. You have to find the
few good ones left.
