My must have that is not on the list is tongs. I use tongs for most of my
cooking. The are great for stove top, oven broiling, outdoor grilling, and
will retrieve dropped items when in a pinch. I have a very old Pyrex
nesting set of mixing bowls that I use regularly, but also have a great set
of ss mixing bowls that I also use a lot. I take the ss to the pool for
serving bowls sometimes.

I'm with ya there! Although I got rid of all of my old metal ones. I had
two pairs only because one got misplaced. I am so glad we aren't making
moves any more. Those movers that move the military always manage to put
things in boxes where they don't belong and that was the case with the
tongs!

They were similar to these:

I don't know why but my mom had this kind and she used them to serve
spaghetti. As you can imagine, they are highly ineffective. And bad for
serving hot food because the handles got hot! Actually mine had only plain
metal handles. I don't think I needed the things at all but they are what I
grew up with so assumed that I needed them.

Then I got some like these:

I actually did keep my three tiny ones. They are handy for serving little
cut up veggies. But I had a ton of the larger ones, purchased for serving
Chinese food at a birthday party. I also bought a ton of serving spoons.

I found them to be highly ineffective for cooking as well because I had to
be careful not to scratch my non-stick pans. And if you leave one resting
on a pan, it gets hot!

Angela bought me some silicone tongs and I loved them so much that I now own
several sets. I used to use a pancake turner for flipping meat and I still
will for something in patty form. But I prefer the tongs now for solid
pieces of meat.
