We recently had a party (upstate NY) for my niece, who will be going
to college in Queens. So the "theme" of the party was NYC, celebrating
some of the different neighborhoods, but not slavishly so. It was a
"theme," not a documentary. I planned the menu and made a lot of the
food, with significant contributions from others. It was a big
success, as judged by the amount of food eaten.

Menu
Coney Island: Hamburgers, Nathan's Hot Dogs, potato salad, watermelon
Harlem: BBQ- pulled pork, corn
Lower East Side (Jewish): mini-knishes, corned beef/rye, cole slaw,
cheesecake
Little Italy: pasta, sausage/meatballs, tossed salad, pizzelles
Chinatown (Asian): egg rolls, bulgogi (Korean), Lo Mein, bao (steamed
buns)
Astoria (Greek): stuffed grape leaves, souvlaki, tzasiki sauce, orzo
salad, hummus, baklava
Jackson Heights (Indian): tandoori chicken, curry potatoes, mangoes,
tiny bananas

And, of course, graduation cake (in the shape of a big apple).

We had enough but not too much!
