What year was it introduced? If it came out in 2012, it's the first
generation or original Nexus 7. If it came out this past July, it's
the second-generation, also referred to as the Nexus 7 FHD or the
Nexus 7 (2013).
From what I see on the internet, it

The first generation (2012) Nexus 7 has a front facing camera and a
dimpled plastic back with a grippy texture with 'nexus' written in the
portrait (vertical) orientation. The 2013 Nexus 7 has both front and
back cameras and a smooth-textured plastic back with 'nexus' written
in the landscape (horizontal) orientation.
and it has a long slot at one end (which I'll assume is for

Don't do that. Most brick & mortar stores have far less selection
(mostly "generic" cases, not made to exactly fit a specific model) and
charge a whole lot more for them. Look on Amazon. You can get a
high-quality, exact-fit case for your Nexus 7 for as little as five
bucks. Poetic is one of the more highly regarded case brands, but
you'll find similarly-designed cases under other labels as well. They
offer several styles - colors, too, though colors other than black
usually cost more.
Speaking of Amazon, I don't shop DealExtreme much anymore, because
most of what I look for there I can find on Amazon for the same price,
sometimes cheaper. And sometimes from US-based sellers, too, meaning I
don't have to wait weeks for delivery.
