This isn't a reply about refrigerators, but if you are truly
remodeling I can thoroughly recommend a trash compactor. It
takes up the same space as a dedicated waste bin and for a family
of four only needs emptying once a week. I have always had
difficulty understanding why everyone doesn't have one. They are
well worth the cost.

Another piece of advice. If you have room for an island put a
sink in it. All you need is something small. When preparing
food it's great to be able to brush the waste from your cutting
board straight into the sink.
