No luck there...it was an old girlfriend. She wasn't joking though - she sat
there and ate them, shells and all. I did a quick google search this morning
though and did run across this:

While some people enjoy eating the peanut shells, a representative of the
Peanut Institute stated, "There is no nutritional value in peanut shells,
and we do not recommend eating them."
