Cats have a very strange reproductive cycle. Female cats go into heat
just to excite the male. They ovulate only when they've .. um, done it.
This means they stay in heat until they get some. Can be months if no
intact male around. This is why it is so cruel to leave a female pet
cat intact. It's like 24/7/365 PMS.
