It is less expensive for the government to handle the taxes
electronically and less expensive for you because you don't pay for a
stamp or gasoline to get to the post office. Everybody whines about
how much the government spends yet most are not willing to help in any
small way because it 'infringes' on their personal freedom to do
things the way they have always done them.
