The potential for comparing various brands in the store, getting
information from the shopkeep, developing a relationship with the
shopkeep and store, finding other wholly unrelated items of interest.
And certainly many more.

The reason I don't buy records/CD's as much as I once did is the fact
that I can root around among the product looking for oddities. Same as
with bookstores, though I do still have a couple of good large used
bookstores around.

That's true they can usually do better with price, but I don't mind
spending a little extra to ensure the life of a local store and their
family.
