Not familiar with the Shellbean terminology..but..was raised on fresh pintos and snaps. Seems like the Game plan is use the more mature pods for the bean part..discarding the hulls and use the younger more tender of the bunch broken up as the snaps. Boiled up with a little bacon or smoked pork hocks. Makes a home canned product that is excellent. In fact yall are making me hongry here..lol. Black eyed peas work the same way. Sure as was previously mentioned any bean can be eat like that but peas and pintos seems to be all we tried. Glory makes an canned commercial version of Soul inspired Field Peas with Snaps..which is very good if you ever see it at the store.
