My sister lives on a one acre lot with quite a few shagbarks. It's a great source for smoking wood, but there are so many damned squirrels that they get pretty much every nut. They really are a bitch to crack, and you pretty much need a nut pick to get the meats out The skins are much less bitter than pecans, and the flavor is very rich and delicate.
