They just won't eat it that way. I have tried.

Then let them go without. It is "beyond ridiculous" to think that you
should cater to their every whim. It's one thing to cook a meal, quite
another to have two people who think they cannot even cut cantaloupe from a
wedge that has been cut from a melon.
