Default Least messy way to prep a melon?

Just let it fall to the ground: it will break into many pieces *all*
standing on the rind. The first time I heard this I thougth "nonsense", then
I saw it happen and now I too use this method. Obviously some juice will
fall to the ground, expecially for a very mature fruit, so don't do it on a
carpet. I do it in the porch.
