That is what I do. I have some round sections of a pecan tree cut into
circular wedges. We always tip the carboy. Additionally, I always have
several sanitized, clear bottles on hand so that the last, final, nasty ,
dreggie bit of a racking can go into the sanitized bottle then into the
refridge for settling and later disposition (we have a small diameter siphon
the siphons directly from the dregg bottle to a glass).
What we haven't done is prop up the bottle the night before, but it sounds
like a great idea.
