Make mine white rye, toasted, and the hot toast rubbed with a cut garlic
clove before buttering, then layer the cheese sprinkle with crushed
dried oregano and fry briefly in a bit of butter till the cheddar
cheese starts to melt.

Occasionally i use a swiss cheese and deli sliced ham or chicken to
layer with the cheese and then nuke for a minute or so, serve with a
knife and fork
