I don't know why it would. My cabinets are dark oak and they don't make
it look like a cave. Painting the walls dark might do that. IMO the
walls should be light in order to make it easier to see and to give it
the illusion of being larger.


My mother's condo had a galley kitchen. Someone had the bright idea of
putting a strip of mirror above the splash board. It did make it look
like there was more counter space and the kitchen looked bigger.... when
the counters were bare. When there was stuff going on in the kitchen it
also make it look like there was twice as much mess.
