The closest McDonalds was a few blocks from the Pizza Hut. There was a
Hojos about as far away.

If you wanted a snack after school you went to one of the two
pharmacies, both of which had real soda fountains. If you wanted food
you went to a real locally owned and operated restaurant, there wasn't
another choice unless you wanted to spend a couple of hours going to and
from Pizza Hut or McDonalds or Hojos and spend more on the ferry than on
the meal.
