being home canned fish and vegetables and such............. we've never
had an expiry date on the cans, just the date we canned/pickled the items

the beets from Sept 2003 still taste great, the seals are good, there is
no rusting of the lid/ring.........the cans/jars are stored in a dark
cool room

oh well, i'm still alive
(no, i do not eat food that smells bad when i open it........ oddly
enough, that happened with the store bought tomato paste that i had in
the cupboard)
