Dave, you can save even more my growing your own. Ginger will grow in
any sandy soil, so long as it doesn't catch a chill. If you want to
play with this idea, look for ginger hands that have little bumps on
them that look like little pearls. These are eyes of new shoots. Given
your location, I'm sure you'd have to provide some special care
temperature-wise, but I think otherwise you might be OK.
