I'm purely Midwest (English/German ancestry), and we always had
vinegar on spinach. On cabbage? Yes, as in coleslaw, but not
otherwise.

My dad (the English side of the family) liked wedges of iceberg
lettuce sprinkled with vinegar and a small bit of sugar - very tasty.
