In many third world countries the baby would be taken to a "wet nurse",
another mother who is nursing her own child.

Survival is in the eye of the beholder. Many of the items that have
been listed would keep someone alive, but are deficient in various
nutrients that would contribute to the health and growth of the baby,
both physical and mental.
