Default TN: Italian winner, Italian loser

Monday we had lemon chicken, in a recipe where the potatoes are roasted then
spend last 15 minutes in which the chicken's lemony broth. Good match with the
2002 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis. Fresh clean white fruit with a lemony zing,
balanced acidity and a nice clean fruit finish. B+

Betsy is truly a great wife. Though she had a rehearsal and a performance
Tuesday and wouldn't be home for dinner, she made David & I an absolutely
delicious slow-cooked veal Bolognese sauce, which I served on pasta along with
braised escarole and salad. I opened the 1999 Villa Puccini Toscana Rosso. In a
word, yuck. 90% Sangiovese/10% Merlot. Sweet red plum fruit totally overpowered
by heavily-toasted oak flavors. Short finish. Low -acid, I can't get past the
over-oaking. Other generic Toscano reds like Monte Antico or Antinori Santa
Christina offer better value in the $8 range. C

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B
a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party
where it was only choice.
