If I am not mistaken (and I could be) , someone either posted or linked
an article that indicated that alcohol helps to enhance the flavour of
vanilla.
Because I make my own ice cream, I go through a lot of vanilla beans and
vanilla extract. The extract is relatively cheap. I would hate to waste
the beans.
