Sitting here on a bleak cold mid-winter solstice, one's mind turns matters
victual. Reading the erudite posts of wines and fine foods, I felt I need to
confess,to what we will be having on Xmas Day, a typical day for many in the
UK
I am sure, around the world, families will be getting together, some wishing
they could be elsewhere, some hating old Auntie Flo etc.

Well, in our house we have 10 for Xmas Day. One is a veggie, one hates poncy
wine and wants beer. Another loves cheap CA rose. Amanda loves Asti
Spumante, and David will drink anything, as long as he is not paying. Paul
loves fine claret, and as he is in the trade usually brings Dad a pressy.

We always walk across the park to the Pub at 12.00, meet friends, and drink
anything that's bought by someone else.! Lurch home with dog showing us the
way.
We only moved 1/12 ago, and the house is a 70's relic, especially the
kitchen. I haven't learnt to drive the cooker yet, so on with the plan.

Canapes and small tartlets, smoked salmon fiddly bits, all from M&S, served
with Tesco's cheap Cava. The cognoscenti will smuggle glasses of Tesco's
!998 Vintage Champers, (half the price of Grand Marques, and IMHO, as good.

More salmony bits, with Tesco's Tourraine Sauv. Very cheap and the kids love
it. We will have a magnum of Le Clos Chablis 1998.

Cold rare Welsh Black sirloin, and home cooked ham. Fish pie for the
veggie( M&S). coleslaw, green salad, bean salad and a humongous pile of
crisply roasted winter veg. A CA zin for the rest, Potensac 89 for us.

My daughter is doing a pud, so God help us, a fruit compote of some
kind.............so fizzy water. A short break to take the dog out.

Various cheeses, with beer for the kids. This year I'm trying St Agur with
Coutet 90., worth a try, but back up for the sticky

Mince pie with the Coutet and Trivial Pursuit. An Old Macallan and beer for
the kids.

Late evening a cold beef sandwich with Latour 89, I will post TN

So there, I confess to being a mean miserable old buggar!...nice wine tho'.
