Trim the ends from the garlic clove set on a cutting board and give it a
smart whack (from about 3" overhead) with the side of a big knife
blade, Or with the bottom of an (empty) coffee mug. That'll loosen the
dry skin and makes picking it off easier. Commence to doing with the
garlic what you will.
