For some newsgroups I use Hamster, a local NNTP server. Hamster downloads
all message bodies. I then use Agent to transfer the messages to Agent.
But what Hamster can do that Agent can't is filter on the message body, or
any header in a usenet message. So with Hamster, you could come up with a
scheme that would filter messages from certain posters containing a lot of
quoted text. And I think with Korrnews added to the chain, you could even
configure Korrnews to delete a percentage of quoted text from incoming
messages before they're saved into Hamster. I'm not sure about that for
sure, but Korrnews is pretty useful for various things.

Both programs
have a bit of a learning curve, and they're far more capable than my
understanding to use them to their full potential.
I use Korrnews for special quotes sometimes, like to do this:
,---- [ Korrnews Example ]
| Blah blah.
| Blah blah blah.
| Blah blah blah blah.
`----
....I typed the following into Agent, without the quotation markers:
> qqq:
> Korrnews Example
> -
> Blah blah.
> Blah blah blah.
> Blah blah blah blah.
> #
....and then you see the results of how Korrnews changed the message
automatically before it was posted. I don't know if Korrnews will do that
without Hamster being used as a stopping point for messages.

Google Groups archives seem to be ruined. I have posted over 10,000
messages on usenet just under this ID alone, and the last time I checked,
it only showed 421.
