This is probably an obvious question, but have you made sure that the
machine's rise cycle is properly working? My sister had a defective
bread machine which would heat during the bake cycle but not during the
rise cycle, so all she got out of it was hockey pucks. She ended up
garage-saling it in hopes that someone could fix it.
