Those who don't like American football usually:
A. don't like violent sports (perfectly reasonable)
and/or
B. haven't taken the hundreds of hours necessary to really understand
the sport (also perfectly reasonable)

There is time between plays, but that's necessary for strategizing.
During the action, the movements are often very complex. It's a very
cerebral sport. Unfortunately, playing it often damages that very
cerebrum.
