REVIEW: Trader Joe's Arancini Bites
I'd never heard of arancini, and I wondered if that
might be a made-up word. In any event, they are
little balls of rice and cheese with a bread crumb
coating. They have a crust that seems like it was
deep-fried.
It's a new item at TJ's, and I resisted buying it
for two whole days. The description didn't sound
very good, and it was expensive ($3.69) compared to
other stuff I could buy that I knew was good. But
the picture on the box kept gnawing at me until I
had to buy a box.
What a disappointment. They look good, all golden.
And when fully cooked, a few of them leak cheese,
which looks good, too. The problem begins when you
bite into them. They have a terrible texture.
They rice provides most of the texture, and the
rice seems gritty. I made the mistake of eating
the first one before it was fully cooked, and the
rice is even more gritty then. But that grittiness
never goes away, even when they are fully cooked.
I definitely don't recommend this product.
