Heya folks,
This is mainly for those that haven't done a cookalong before.
It has evolved over the years since we first started doing them
sometime back in 2001-2002. Then, it was mainly amongst those that
particpated in chat, and chat is often a part of it. It would start
with those of us in chat picking a recipe and each of us cooking it at
our individual homes. We would chat some, go off to do some
chopping/mixing,etc, then come back to chat, go off to do more stuff
involved in the dish and so on through the completion and tasting of
the dish. We would critique how it turned out, what we varied and how
we liked our variations, and what we would do differently the next
time. The idea is to sort of emulate a real cook-in...so we often are
chatting, nibbling and imbibing our choice of beverage as we cook.
Due to the fact that a lot of people don't participate in chat, it has
evolved. Certainly, those that participate in chat can come do the
cookalong thing while chatting, but it isn't necessary.
So, the day of the cookalong, we will all cook our dish/dishes and
post about them. If you choose to take pictures and then post those,
they would be most welcome. Feel free to post during the cooking
process...to let us know how it is going.
Those of you that want to join in the chat and do the cookalong that
way are most welcome. We used to set a start time, but with people in
all parts of the globe, that doesn't always work so well now. Those
of us in the US that want to chat and cook at the same time, we can
sort of set a general time to start cooking and chatting. It is
usually sometime in the afternoon and usually finishing up in time for
a meal.
I think the last cookalong we did, a fair amount of people showed up
and came in and out of chat... Others just posted about what they
did...
As I said before, the general theme this time is RFC recipes. Either
from the RFC cookbook, or from any RFC recipes that you have saved. If
you haven't saved any and don't have the cookbook, I suppose you could
google for rfc recipes,if you want to participate. The catch in this,
as mentioned before..it should be a recipe you haven't done before.
For instance, if you have made brownies before, but haven't made
Barb's brownies that would the type of thing to do... The list could
be endless. The idea is to try something new to you.
Or you can just come and join us (in chat) for the company...
Shall we start sometime about 2pm or thereabouts for east coast time?
Or got a better suggestion??
Those of you not able to join in at that time...just cook that day
when it is convenient for you. Post when you can...take pictures...
Those of you that have done the cookalongs before, am I forgetting
anything?
