Yes, Venice is at its best out of season, but then so are most other
places. We were there in January and had the city practically to
ourselves. The weather was great most of the time and there was no
acqua alta! Many restaurants are closed in January, but there is still
enough choice. People tend to say that one can't eat well in Venice,
but that is nonsense. Most of our meals were good to very good and one,
at Alle Testiere, was great. At that place, they'll hand you a menu,
but do not try to order anything from it - they'll tell you it is there
only to give you an idea of the prices they charge. They'll tell you
what they cooked that day - which always depends on what was best at the
market that morning. It is a fish and seafood only place.
