We ate soft boiled eggs when I was a kid. That's my remembrance also.
They got scooped out using a spoon. Where they went, I'm not sure,
either a bowl or a plate. They may have gone on a piece of toast on a
plate. It's been too long. I remember my dad's, though. He crushed
saltine crackers in a bowl, and the egg went on top of that. I must
have tried it, although I don't remember anything about it other than I
didn't like it that way.
