All blind except the Croze
no notes taken, so from memory, so may be a bit haphazard.
with mini fritata
Laurent Perrier Millesieme 1999
Very pale straw with a dumb nose, some toasty notes, but reminded one of a
simple NV. Echoed on palate, light with some fruit and one had to search for
anything significant, is this the LP house style?
Dom Perignon 1996
deep straw with wonderful fine moussse, viscosity of a Montrachet, nose of
buttered toast and wet garden herbs, complex, layers of aromas. Massive
entry, bounced off the hard palate, unctous yet balancing acidity. Long.
Still wonderful after an hour.Long life ahead, 2nd WOTN
with vichycoisse
Meursault 1er Cru Les Perriers, Vincent Girardin, 2004
bright straw, textbook nose of shortbread and apricots, some oak. A simple
palate of melon and peaches, some spice, all in balance. Excellent.
Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 2001
A stuuner in the glass deep straw with good viscosity, " is this riesling?,
" said my dear wife who hates riesling, and eveyone agreed, a distinct
garage floor nose with peaches and butter, the petrol nose eased a bit over
the meal but lingered. also significant matches nose. Fruit salad palate and
some thought cloying, I loved it, but all bar me preferred the previous
wine. What do they say about mixing up chards and riesling at the top
level,.
with rare cold ribeye beef and Gordon Ramsey's summer veg salad
DRC Echezaux 1993
Pale burgundian robe with ahint of age bright, restrained complex nose of
spice and berries and some ****pot pinot. Better on palate, a mix of berry
fruit and spice, layer upon layer, rich balance and very long.
LLC 1982, yes its LLC 82 again, I sold mine some years ago, helped pay some
uni fees, as I always thought it was going nowwhere.
Deep brooding wine with huge extract. A reticent nose of cassis, wet leather
and spice, all a bit low key........and then what a palate, a huge mouthful
of liquid blackcurrants and spice, all in glorious balance and so long. Will
the nose evolve in time.? Was I right> Time will tell, joint 2nd WOTN
with various cheese and papillon roquefort.
Yquem 1990
light antique gold as thick as olive oil., wonderful nose of oranges and
honey, not much bot. A sip of liquid creme brulee, layers of complex fruit.
Magnificent. WOTN.
as the cheese had some way to go another red was pulled without decanting.
Croze Hermitage, Jaboulet, 1999.
Still youthful, depth, funky nose of tinned tomatoes and toothpaste, forest
floor and some armpit, Good balance fruit and tannins, spicy and not bad,
should improve with breathing but taxis beckoned. An hour later after
clearing up, finished the bottle, now more organic nose, and softer on the
palate.
A grand evening and a photo next morning
