I usually had to buy the heart/gizzard combo packages in Calfornia,
too. I think it's a Fosters Farm thing. There was a fish/puoltry
store that sold them separately (Race Street Fish and Poultry in San
Jose), but never anywhere else. Even the Asian marts with all their
various awful never sold just chicken hearts.
