If he just now bought his home, earthquake insurance is a toss-up. The
premiums are high, the deductible is WAY high and coverage for
anything other than the house structure is pretty much non existent. I
had earthquake insurance up to the '94 earthquake which just about
broke my insurance company. They argued every charge and nit-picked
every expense and in general screwed us out of every penny they could.
When it came time to renew the new policy looked nothing like the old.
So I didn't renew. It would be cheaper for me to move out of
California than try to collect on the new earthquake insurance
policies.
