1/3 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs well beaten
1 3/4 cup pastry flour
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 reaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
With waxed paper, line bottom of 8-9
inch square pan or two 8 inch layer pans.
Cream shortening and gradually add sugar.
creaming together well. Add vanilla and eggs.
Beat. Add flour. baking powder and salt. Add
to cream mixture alternately with the milk in
three additions , adding dry ingredients first
and last.Turn into cake pan and bake in
moderate oven 350 degrees for 35 to 40
minutes . Cake springs back when lightly
touched with finger.Cool in pan for 10
minutes. Turn out on rack, remove paper
