It is hard to say. There is a report about mad squirrel disease
in Kentucky on rense.com, an interesting website but I do not
know about their fact-checking. The Wikipedia article on prion disease
does not list squirrel as an affected species (the ones listed
are humans, goats, sheep, cow, mink, elk, deer, nyala, and
greater kudu). Lab scientists have succeeded in infecting
_Saimiri sciureus_, the new world squirrel monkey, with prions
but it has not occured in nature.
So I am not sure about mad squirrel.
