I suspect your attic is going to be the new nursery. Contact animal
control, and ask them what your options are. At my Mom's house, we
used a hav-a-heart trap, found their entry point and after we had the
whole family, boarded it up with hardware mesh, wood, and shingles.

In our house, the little mugger got into the cellar, and we had to put
the hav-a-heart between two cinder blocks, since smarty pants was
picking the bait out through the sides. Keeping it out was easy:
close the flue the sweeps left open, and put a cap on the chimney.
