I have never lost a partner, Alan, but I have lost both parents and
numerous friends in recent years. Part of my healing was getting through
the first entire year of holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Each
first one was like a punch in the gut.
It's been 19 years since my father's death and 11 years since my mother's
death. I still grieve for them on many occasions, but the passing of time
has eased the pain. We never forget, but we become accustomed to not
having them.
Two months ago I lost a very dear friend. That loss is still a very raw
feeling.
You'll get through this, especially with the help of family and friends,
and it will get easier. It's a slow process.
Best always,
