I believe they lack flavor for the same reason most industrial tomatoes
do. That is because they aren't ripe when the vine & tomato are clipped
off. And as you noted later it is largely a scam to make people think
they are somehow different because there is a segment of vine attached.

Thats we we do. We grow tomatoes but when they are done we get vine
ripened cherry tomatoes that are grown by regional Amish farmers. They
actually taste like tomatoes.
