No.
I have a reputation in my family of being a sound sleeper. I also sleep
a long time. 8 hours is just a start for me.
My wife complains to me about how she can't get to sleep and doesn't
sleep well when she does. I just put up with her complaints. Within
two minutes of her head hitting the pillow she is snoring up a storm.
Every time. She is a light sleeper, though. If I talk to her, she
responds. She understands everything. However, I have to be careful,
because the next morning she remembers nothing.
My daughter used to complain, also. She would get up in the morning
(and she isn't easy to wake up), and complain that she hadn't slept at
all. Now, my wife and I would check on her several times a night, and
she was out like a light. She never even got up to pee.
When my oldest son was little, we were very proud of how we had raised
him. None of this tiptoeing around because "the baby is asleep". It
wasn't till we had our next, who was more normal, that we realized that
we hadn't done a thing. He was just a heavy sleeper. When he was a
little baby, he was sitting on my lap one day, fast asleep. I picked
him up by his ankles and shook him. It wasn't a hard shake, just a
gentle up and down. He never woke up.
When my daughter was about two, I had agreed to pick up my son after his
swim lesson. She was showing signs of nap time, but I wanted her to
wait until we were back, so I could have some peace and quiet that
afternoon. Well, I wasn't diligent, and she fell asleep on a chair.
About fifteen minutes later, I picked her up, carried her out to the
vehicle, strapped her in and drove to the swim center. I picked up my
son, drove home, unstrapped my daughter from her car seat, carried her
in the house and laid her on the couch. She had never woken up the
whole time. I unsnapped her pants and changed her diaper. I didn't
bother to snap her pants back up. I carried her in her room, laid her
in her crib and put a blanket over her. Still fast asleep.
