Dinner last night and tonight...
Last night we were invited by friends to a dinner at one of their cousins
and their family, by virtue of having met them for the first time at a
birthday party a couple of weeks ago. The cousin, Bill, is an excellent
home cook, and there was a crowd of people (large family). David and I
were the only non-family members there. It was truly a comfort meal, as
Bill had made a 14 quart stockpot full of chicken and homemade egg noodles,
studded with pieces of carrot, celery, and onion. I think they were best
I've ever eaten. He had also baked six dozen white and whole wheat dinner
rolls which were both toothsome and light, and still warm out of the oven.
We had sides of fresh cut buttered corn, mashed potatoes, and a great mix
of greens and vegetable salad. I think I counted six different kinds of
pie, and others had brought appetizers. I took my lime cake by Bill's
request, along with my mother's recipe for cheeseball and an assortment of
crackers.
Bill sent us home with a half dozen rolls and a large pan of chicken and
noodles. We carefully reheated the chicken and noodles and rolls tonight
and thoroughly enjoyed it again!
