Two thoughts spring to mind:

1. YOU'RE not going to be eating the food! So the issue of quality is a
purely secondhand consideration.

2. Just imagine the conversations if your funeral party had bad food: "Oh,
Barb would NEVER serve food this bad if she were still alive! I already miss
her so much..." Then contrast it with this comment if the food was GOOD:
"This food is really good. I hardly notice that Barb's dead."
