Default 4 Liter bottles

I brew Mead and am looking for 4 Liter wine bottles to use as
carboys for one gallon recipes. Does anyone have a source for
4 Liter bottles? Does anyone have some 4 Liter bottles they
would like to sell?

I won't give mine away but I can tell you were I got them. The local
recycling center, look for Carlo Rossi 4L jugs. Very nice jugs. They
take easily localed screw top lids, good for bulk aging.

I also have a bunch of those -- and found that the screwcaps from Clorox
bleach (of which I use a lot) fit perfectly.

I got mine from two places: the local homebrew shop (you may have to
special order) and the grocery store (a local orchard sells apple juice
in 4 litre bottles/carboys and the juice has no preservatives in it...)

The apple cider I buy comes in 1 gallon glass jugs. So you can go to the
grocery store, buy a gallon of apple cider for 4 bucks. Drink the cider, or
ferment it like I do and save the jug.

I buy Murray's.

There is always ebay too...

Bart:

The Clorox bottles wind up full of waste motor oil for the recycling
center. But now I'll trade out the tops before they go.

Thanks for the great tip, I didn't even think about that!
