I've also never really had a bad experience with any of the supply
store sites, though I have always liked morebeer.com for it's yeast
variety.

I have ordered from several sites with no problem. I will say that this is
the right time to order your yeast. You should not order it in the summer
and it is even best not to buy it form a small local wineshop in the summer.

Ray, why is that you shouldn't buy local small shops? There is a
local here that keeps his yeasts in a freezer, should this help?

PK,

I order from piwine.com too, as well as grapeandgranary. However, I
am very close to presque isle, so I get no shipping. It is a great
little place, and their mail order/internet order is a major part of
their business.

Ahhhh. In the winter you are probably okay buying form most any source.
But in the summer it is another matter. Unfortunately, most small local
shops buy the same way you do. Through the mail. In the summer mail may
well be subjected to temperatures in the back of a mail van that will kill
yeast. So you should not buy yeast from any source that ships yeast by mail
in the summer and you should not order yeast by mail in the summer either..

Now if your local store can assure you that they only get their yeast by
refrigerated truck, then you are safe; but I bet they do not. I am getting
ready to order my annual supply pretty soon.
