platen fit

Does the platen of a press fit tightly or loosely?
I'm just wondering if the pressed juice flows up and
over the platen to run out through the slats from above
and below or is it just below?

Platens typically don't fit too tight. If you crank up the pressure too
fast, the juice will run all over the mechanism. You might get some geysers
too - particularly with a white pressing.

The only real geyser I’ve seen have been mostly friends
“helping” and drinking while we press. As anyone know,
pressing on a basket press is a slow process. You have to let the
juices flow slowly so you do not flood the whole thing. I did make a
s/s tube/sleeve to sit/fit loosly around the basket to catch these
little streams. Now my walls are clean after pressing ;)
