New Wine Log Software

I'm currently creating new desktop software for winemakers. It
incorporates a complete database management system, along with reporting
and charting capabilities. It is designed to run on any operating system
including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. I've released a beta test version,
in order to get feedback regarding the progress so far. The details can be
found at the following page:

http://www.fermsoft.com/amphora/index.php

Feedback can be provided via the contact page or forum page on the website.

Robert - my first impressions -- WOW - this will be very nice. I have a few
comments after trying it out for about 5 minutes . . .

Mac OS 10.3.2 -- program runs great -- it's java, so things like report
opening seem a little slow. But that's ok.

I happened to insert an apostrophe in the "source" field (eg. Shirley's
Vineyard) and it gave me an error when it tried to save the new entry.

Unexpected token: S in statement [blah blah]

I noticed in the error message the fields were separated by apostrophes, so
it thought the S on the end of "Shirley's" was something else.

I love the ability to incorporate pictures (labels) into the log. Is it
possible to make this a drag and drop feature? I found traversing my
directory listing to find the picture was a bit tedious.

I'm looking forward to playing around with it some more!!!

Thanks a bunch for your hard work on this. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you like it so far.

The first report you run will be a bit slow as the program needs to
initialize the reporting libraries. Subsequent reports will open faster
since the code is already loaded into memory.

Yes, I will fix that problem. The apostrophes confuse the database. I've
already written a parser that looks for characters that confuse the
database. I just need to activate it for all text entry fields.

Thats a good idea. I will look into this.

Let me know if you have any further ideas or find any other bugs. I have
received another report from a Mac user that the date pickers don't work
properly when using the Mac system theme. I'm currently working on this
problem. I will probably release a third beta in another week or so that
fixes all known bugs (and possibly add drag and drop).

Robert

I tried your online wine log and liked it. I am planning to try out your
download tomorrow.
What are you planning to do with this software when it is finished?

Sorry, I should have posted my comments on your web forum as you suggested
instead of here. Anyway - I also noticed the date problem but forgot to
mention it.
